On first entering the room, the player is required to scan the scan post in the mid-section of the room in order to open the gate. Once activated, it will erratically move up and down, failing to fully open and requiring Samus to use the [[Morph Ball]] to pass through it.

Once through the gate, it will refuse to open again on the next time the room loads. At this point, the only way to pass through the gate is to destroy it, either using Power Bombs or [[Screw Attack]]. The gate cannot be destroyed on the first pass through the room.
