Sanctum is the room in which the final boss sequence starts in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. All three phases of the Emperor Ing boss fight are contained in this room, which consists of a large, open arena which is bordered by phazon on the edges.
After defeating Emperor Ing 3, the platforms in the center of the room rise, and the escape sequence begins. The game actually makes a temporary save here, so if the timer runs out or if Samus dies, the player will immediately be returned to this point so they can attempt the escape sequence again.
