There are many categories that people speedrun for Metroid Prime. The most popular ones are any%, 100%, and low%, just to name a few. All categories use any and all glitches, unless stated otherwise.
Any%
Beat the game using any route and collecting any amount of items.
100%
Beat the game while collecting all 100 items. This does not include scans as the final in-game percentage does not include them. This means you should have:
- 14 Energy Tanks
- 250 Missiles
- 8 Power Bombs
- All Upgrades
Routes
21%

Beat the game while collecting the fewest number of items possible. The current lowest possible percentages for this category is 21%. This run actually collects 22 items, but is only 21% as Phazon Suit does not count as a percent. The list of required items to beat the game are as follows:
- 12 Artifacts
- Missile Launcher
- Morph Ball
- Morph Ball Bomb
- Varia Suit
- Wave Beam
- Ice Beam
- Plasma Beam
- Power Bomb
- X-Ray Visor
- Phazon Suit
Routes
Max% No Space Jump
Beat the game while collecting as many items as possible, and skipping Space Jump Boots. This run ends up up with 98% instead of 99%, because Phazon Suit does not count as a percent.
Max% No Bombs
Beat the game while collecting as many items as possible, and skipping Morph Ball Bombs. This run ends up up with 98% instead of 99%, because Phazon Suit does not count as a percent.
Frigate Escape
The Frigate Escape category is timed by looking at the time displayed on the last frame of the escape before the cutscene begins.
