Hive Totem is a room located in the Chozo Ruins region of Metroid Prime. The first mini-boss of the game, Hive Mecha, resides here, guarding the Missile Launcher.
Skipping Hive Mecha
It is possible to skip the Hive Mecha fight altogether, as there are numerous ways of avoiding the trigger. The following all assumes that you don't have the Space Jump Boots, which makes skipping the fight trivial.
Scan Dash Method
By performing a Scan Dash using one of the scan points near the fight, it is possible to skip the fight entirely.
Wii
An alternate dash method exists on Wii, which takes advantage of the firefly in Totem Access.
R-Jump Method
R-Jumping will also grant you enough distance to skip the fight.
Precise Standing Method
The trigger that initiates the fight is just barely small enough to not cover the entirety of the platform. Therefore, with precise movement, it is possible to skip the fight by just walking past it.
Slope Jump Method
There is a section under the acid water that can give you a Slope Jump powerful enough to jump onto the platform, even without the Space Jump Boots.
Wii
This method can also be done on Wii.
