A Bomb Space Jump (BSJ) is a height technique that takes advantage of Instant Unmorphs. It allows you to immediately unmorph and jump after you have done a Single, Double, or Triple Bomb Jump. The key is to be in an area in which you are able to get an Instant Unmorph, as it otherwise is impossible to do this technique.

It helps to hold L after you have started jumping so that you can jump higher/farther.

How-To

The general steps are as follows:

  • Lay the initial Bomb
    • If doing a Single BSJ, unmorph after the bomb explodes
    • If doing a 2BSJ, lay two bombs in succession after the first bomb explodes, then unmorph
    • If doing a 3BSJ, lay three bombs in succession after the first bomb explodes, then unmorph
  • Jump after the Instant Unmorph

Prime

In Prime speedruns, BSJs are very rarely used. One notable trick that requires the Bomb Space Jumps is Elevator Access A, which is the first shaft in spiderless shafts. Another use of the trick is in Phazon Core.

BSJs in Prime use 1 or 3 bombs.

Echoes

BSJs are quite commonly used in Echoes speedruns.

The most common and applicable way to be in a good position is to have your back against a wall. An easy way to achieve this camera position is to have your back to the wall, and then briefly move forwards and morph. Also, you want to be moving backwards as you are popped up from the bombs in order to facilitate getting the Instant Unmorph (assuming that you are doing the standard setup where you back is to a wall). There are some other cases in which you might want to be moving forward as you are launched up. Again, it all depends on what it takes to get the Instant Unmorph.

Corruption

Just like in Echoes, BSJs are also common in this game. BSJs in this game can be combined with Spring Ball. The initial bomb can be a Spring Ball instead. There are two BSJs used in Corruption:

  • Spring Space Jump (SSJ)
  • Bomb Spring Space Jump (BSSJ)

Instant Unmorph Jumps

An Instant Unmorph Jump (IUJ) is a subset of BSJs with the main difference being that Bombs are not used. Technically, BSJs are just IUJs with Bombs, to keep things simple, this will be referred to as a separate trick. There are a few methods to pull off an IUJ.

Method 1

The first method is used in both Prime and Echoes. This method just involves unmorphing after getting the camera blocked. A notable use of this in Prime is the Secret World in Biotech Research Area 1. When Samus gets repositioned Out of Bounds, an IUJ can be performed to land on the sticky collision of the wall. TODO: <video of clip or just have the link to the SW here>

In Echoes, an IUJ can be performed after the Morph Secret World in Temple Transport C to transition to Transport C Access much faster.

Method 2

This method is used in Echoes rarely. To achieve an IUJ in this fashion, one must roll Samus backwards towards a wall and get a bounce. After bouncing upwards a bit, unmorph. If done correctly and an Instant Unmorph is achieved, one can jump in the air to gain a bit more height than normal. Note that this method is not nearly as useful as a BSJ, as it is very niche. A specific use of this trick is to climb Central Station Access without Space Jump Boots or Bombs. This can also be achieved in Warrior's Walk.
