Hive Totem is a room located in the Chozo Ruins region of Metroid Prime. The first mini-boss of the game, Hive Mecha, resides here, guarding the Missile Launcher.

Defeating Hive Mecha in this room disables layer "1st pass" and enables layer "2nd pass", and also changes layers in these rooms:
- Nursery Access - Disables layer "Default Music" and enables layer "After Hive Totem".
- Ruins Entrance - Disables layer "Default Music" and enables layer "After Hive Totem".
Defeating Flaahgra in Sunchamber disables layer "Poison Water" in this room, and enables layer "Normal Water".
Skipping Hive Mecha
It is possible to skip the Hive Mecha fight altogether, as there are numerous ways of avoiding the trigger. The following all assumes that you don't have the Space Jump Boots, which makes skipping the fight trivial.
Scan Dash Method
By performing a Scan Dash using one of the scan points near the fight, it is possible to skip the fight entirely.
